A COLLECTION OF EARLY MERBEIN HOUSES AND THEIR RESIDENTS (2021) $25.00
he request for information on Merbein and district early houses was relayed to the community via the MDHS First Houses Display Project Committee Co-odinators, Lynette Adams and Jill Thomson in 2015. Forms were sent to MDHS members, members of the wider district Merbein community, and the local media reported on the project.
This resulted in a great response from owners, ex-owners, MDHS and community members who willingly submitted information and images on a wide variety of Merbein and district’s early homes for a MDHS display.
When the decision was taken to publish a book on the early houses, a further, successful last plea was also made to the community.
The time frame for inclusion in the book is predominately pre 1960, with some later exceptions for a unique construction or circumstance.
Previous Merbein Historian editors, Bronwyn Zrna, Lynette Adams and Jill Thomson, also featured over the years, several of these houses in the magazine.
We thank all community and MDHS members who contributed to the book.
The 236 page book has information and images on over 100 Merbein houses and was compiled by Bernadette Wells and published by the MDHS. It was launched in December 2021 by Mildura Rural City Council's Deputy Mayor, Cr. Cyndi Power at the Society's new rooms at 36 Box Street, next to the Merbein Library.
